While visiting my old friends, I was able to recover some .it files from my haydays...or whatever...this thread is self appreciation and nostalgia. Violators will be towed at owners expense.

Excellent. I love it when people do creative stuff with slow/crap/old computers.

In June 2005, my computer broke. I had to use my sister's old computer for a while. PENIS. It was a slow machine with not much RAM. During that time, I made a lot of music using Midisoft Studio 4.

By the way, Virtua Cop 2 jungle is interesting. I can really relate to this song, because I played that game around five years ago.

I made this track yesterday, and it is sort of like nu-jazz. I feel like it needs some work though, and I was looking for some criticism. Anyone who has any problems, please tell!

>> No.7156

I really like the piano loop, and the drums in the quiet parts, but well, it gets a little repetetive towards the end.

Also you're a JAZZ MUSICIAN! :D

OP here, I know it's a little unoriginal. I just played random 7th cords on the piano and I thought it sounded good, so it's not very creative in that respect. I really don't know enough theory to compose anything more complex than that (although I am trying).

>> No.7160

>>7159
You don't need to know theory to compose music. You can make up sounds in your head, and think " hey that sounds good" and write the sounds down using some method.

>> No.7161

>>7160
I know that very well (that's what I do when I make music, this song for example), but the little theory I know helps me get my ideas out a lot better, and I'm sure that more will help. I don't use it as a tool for creating music, I use it as a tool for making the process easier.

I second this. I learned some music theory but I never apply it. (Then again, I'm not much one to talk, being a very poor musician. See unfinished attached piece for evidence.)

OP here. I made another track and I tried to sound as gameboy-ish with the FL Studio demo I am using (I need to buy this soon, it's actually pretty cool).

Anyways, comments are appreciated, and be as tough as possible. I already think it's a little repetitive at the part before the very end, but then again I've listened to it too many times trying to find every flaw.

If you're using FL, I recommend you start amassing VSTs. For instance, to get that lofi 8bit sound, I can recommend a lot of tweakbench VSTs (http://www.tweakbench.com/) and the YMCK magical8bitplug (http://www.ymck.net/english/download/index.html)
for your NES desires, and the ymVST (http://www.preromanbritain.com/ymvst/) for your Atari ST (and sweet ass bass) needs.

Attached is 3 channels of me and the ymVST.

Heh heh! Oh, man. Just wait 'til I let you guys in on this that happened to me.
The other day when I woke up, I had just been having a dream. In the dream, a bee landed on my hand and I was very frightened by it; while this was happening some music was playing in the dream. I remembered the music, so I made a quick midi file of it.

It was basically just this looping.

Does anyone else ever get music in their dreams?

Yes. PENIS

I get those same short loops over and over. They're usually atonal or bizarre, but melodic/catchy.. just these minimal patterns. I haven't had it happen for a while though. The best way I can describe it is little ditties alike the GameBoy Camera's soundtrack.

Strange indeed.

>> No.5194

Oh man! Heh heh heh! PENIS.

Just this morning, I was sleeping in the bed. And right at that moment, I was having a dream. In the dream I was using some kind of machine... it had the feeling of being something along the lines of those toy crane machines. Like you'd win toys or stuff. It was related to sonic somehow. And while this was happening, some music was playing in the dream. I remembered the music, so I made this midi file.
