"An Australian man has discovered security vulnerabilities in his Internet-connected coffee maker that could allow a remote attacker to not only take over his Windows XP-based PC but also make his coffee too weak."

"Once connected to the Internet, the high-end coffee maker, which retails for nearly US$2,000 on Amazon, lets you do things like set the strength of your coffee and get remote diagnostic help over the Internet without having to send the appliance in for service."

But you still have to go to the kitchen to get your cup of coffee. I'm afraid replicators have yet to be invented

"A girl whose lemonade stand was robbed of $17.50 chased the suspect into a nearby home and called police, who spent nearly an hour trying to coax the man into surrendering.

"The guy came up and was, like, 'Give me your money,'" said 12-year-old Dominique Morefield, who was running the lemonade stand with a group of friends."

"Dominique dashed after the man who ran into a house, and then she called police. Officers eventually persuaded Steve Tryon, 18, to come outside after 45 minutes and arrested him on a preliminary felony charge of robbery."

"The kids said they would continue to sell lemonade, but with an adult's supervision."

"BEIJING (Reuters) - A Chinese high school teacher has been fired and denounced by local media and Internet users for fleeing a classroom before his students during last month's devastating earthquake.

Fan Meizhong, a Chinese-language teacher at a private high school in quake-ravaged Dujiangyan in southwest Sichuan province, has been branded "running Fan" on Internet chat-rooms and come under fire for defending his actions online in a lengthy post."

"Less than a month after declaring polar bears a threatened species because of global warming, the Bush administration is giving oil companies permission to annoy and potentially harm them in the pursuit of oil and natural gas.

The Fish and Wildlife Service issued regulations this week providing legal protection to seven oil companies planning to search for oil and gas in the Chukchi Sea off the northwestern coast of Alaska if "small numbers" of polar bears or Pacific walruses are incidentally harmed by their activities over the next five years."

It's so fucking retarded to place polar bears on the threatened list when their population has increased by 300% since the 70's.

What, there's now 4 polar bears instead of just one?

Jeez, you conservatives and your percentile figures. It's almost like a big old flag that says "simplistic trickery here".

Oh yes, because 4 is the actual number of polar bears. Silly me, I guess we should bring industry to a halt because ecotards can't count.

I think he thinks he's saying that because someones claims we have more polar bears than we used to, that makes it perfectly alright to ignore imminent changes that might exterminate the polar bears. It's somewhat akin to jumping out of an airplane without a parachute and proclaiming how safe it is all the way down.
p.s. And don't think for a minute that polar bears don't know what apples is.

San Diego, CA) Radio talk show host Michael Reagan is calling for the murder of political activist, Mark Dice, after hearing that Dice is mailing letters and DVDs to troops in Iraq. Reagan wants to pay for the bullets.

“Excuse me folks, I’m going to say this. We ought to find the people who are doing this, take them out and shoot them. Really. You take them out, they are traitors to this country, and shoot them. You have a problem with that? Deal with it. You shoot them. You call them traitors, that’s what they are, and you shoot them dead. I’ll pay for the bullets.”

Reagan adds, “How about you take Mark Dice out and put him in the middle of a firing range. Tie him to a post, don’t blindfold him, let it rip and have some fun with Mark Dice.”

"Japanese car manufacturer Honda has begun the first commercial production of a zero-emission, hydrogen fuel-cell powered vehicle.

The four-seater, called FCX Clarity, runs on electricity produced by hydrogen, and emits water vapour.

Honda claims the vehicle offers three times better fuel efficiency than a traditional, petrol-powered car. "

"One of the biggest obstacles standing in the way of wider adoption of fuel-cell vehicles is the lack of hydrogen fuelling stations."

"A study released this week by the Florida Medical Examiners Commission showed that prescription drug deaths are three times that of deaths caused by illegal drugs.

Researchers examined 168, 900 autopsy reports and concluded that there has been an 80 percent increase in prescription drug related deaths over the last six years."

"The study found that 2,328 people died of opiate, or painkiller, overdoses. Another 743 died from over-consuming benzodiazepine, which include drugs like Valium and Xanax. Those numbers were compared to the 989 people who died of cocaine, heroin, or methamphetamine overdoses."
