"Companies that assign addresses for Web sites appear to be cutting corners on security more when they assign names in certain domains than in others, according to a report to be released Wednesday by antivirus software vendor McAfee Inc.

Other risky domains include ".ro" (Romania), with 6.8 percent, and ".ru" (Russia), with 6 percent of sites flagged as dangerous."

An unnamed expert believes that a nuclear explosion caused the recent 8.0 magnitude Sichuan earthquake in China, where three weeks after the catastrophe the death toll has reached 69,000 plus.

Overseas Chinese website Boxun News reported that the expert confirmed there was a nuclear explosion near the epicenter, based on witness reports and the discovery of concrete rubble believed to have come from an underground military installation.

Mr. He, a local resident, stated that when the earthquake occurred on May 12, people saw something erupt from the top of a mountain next to the valley, "It looked like toothpaste being squeezed out," said He. "No, it wasn't [magma]. It was these concrete pieces. The eruption lasted about three minutes."

Why test nukes in Sichuan? If I were a commie I'd do it in Tibet, Xinjiang or somewhere with uppity locals.

"Vice President Dick Cheney threw a verbal insult at West Virginians on Monday, but quickly apologized.

Talking about his family roots and how he's distantly related to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, the vice president noted that he had Cheneys on both sides of his family.

"And we don't even live in West Virginia," Cheney quipped."

UK - "A man wearing a T-shirt depicting a cartoon character holding a gun was stopped from boarding a flight by the security at Heathrow's Terminal 5."

The security officer told him "'we won't be able to let you through because your T-shirt has got a gun on it'"

""If a T-shirt had a rude word or a bomb on it, for example, a passenger may be asked to remove it,"" a BAA spokesman commented.

"Long-term heavy use of marijuana may cause two important brain structures to shrink, Australian researchers said on Monday.

Brain scans showed the hippocampus and amygdala were smaller in men who were heavy marijuana users compared to nonusers, the researchers said. The men had smoked at least five marijuana cigarettes daily for on average 20 years.

The hippocampus regulates memory and emotion, while the amygdala plays a critical role in fear and aggression.

The study, published in the American Medical Association's journal Archives of General Psychiatry, also found the heavy cannabis users earned lower scores than the nonusers in a verbal learning task -- trying to recall a list of 15 words."

"NASA's press office "marginalized or mischaracterized" studies on global warming between 2004 and 2006, the agency's own internal watchdog concluded.

In a report released Monday, NASA's inspector general office called it "inappropriate political interference" by political appointees in the press office. It said that the agency's top management wasn't part of the censorship, nor were career officials.

NASA downplayed the report as old news on a problem that has since been fixed. NASA spokesman Michael Cabbage said the space agency's new policies have now been hailed for openness by the U.S. Government Accountability Office."

"US coffee chain Starbucks has come under fire for a new logo that critics say is offensive and overly graphic.

The Resistance, a US-based Christian group, has called for a national boycott of the coffee-selling giant.

It says the chain's new logo has a naked woman on it with her legs "spread like a prostitute... The company might as well call themselves Slutbucks". "

You'd think so, with the way Right-Wing Fundy lobbyists & GOP funders hold so much political sway over the Republicans. Thus the USA is held back in terms of medical technology. Meanwhile, our Parliament in the UK recently voted to reject a ban on Stem Cell research, thus Britain will be at the forefront of such groundbreaking genetic technology (outside of Cuba & China)- the result of not allowing our religious clergy any political power.

Thank goodness I live in the same country as Richard Dawkins. A Secular UK. An ATHEIST UK.

I work in a bookstore that has a Starbucks in it, and the number of complaints about the logo we've received would be... 0. We have had some people ask about it ("Hey, what happened to the Starbucks logo?"), and we just tell them that it's the old one they're bringing back. They then shrug and go buy coffee.

Also: the nutjob who's calling for the boycotts is barely recognizable as a Christian of any stripe, much less Fundamentalist.

"Scientists are to be permitted to use tissue from dead people to create cloned human stem cells for research, under a legal change put forward by the government.

Health ministers have proposed that laboratories should be allowed to use stored human tissue to create cloned embryonic stem cells without the explicit consent of the tissue donor. This would allow research to be done on tissue donated for medical research as long as 30 years ago. "

This is the UK, where if MPs admit to believing in any kind of fumdamentalist religion (especially Xtianity), they're told to keep it to themselves by their leaders (& the party whips), as public disclosure would be political suicide for said party. And even Pro-Life lobbyists are seen as weirdo fringe freaks here (especially by said political parties). And where, in our Parliament recently, a ban on Stem Cell research was rejected.

Welcome to the Secular, ATHEIST UK. And where Americans will have to come for related Gene Therapy in the near future. Enjoy your medically backward USA.
