Unrepentant Bush delivers his last speech to UN

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/unrepentant-bush-delivers-his-last-speech-to-un-940071.html

By David Usborne in New York
Tuesday, 23 September 2008

There was no departing from his usual script of indignant impatience at the shortcomings of other world leaders, governments and institutions as President George Bush came to New York today to give his eighth and last address to the United Nations, a body that has never found him particularly palatable.

An unrepentant Mr Bush, who might have been on the defensive not least because of the meltdown of American financial institutions over recent days, if not the continuing war in Iraq, instead rehearsed familiar appeals for pushing out the boundaries of freedom, justice for terrorists and punishment for countries that may harbour them.

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration asked Congress on Saturday for the power to buy $700 billion in toxic assets clogging the financial system and threatening the economy as negotiations began on the largest bailout since the Great Depression.

The rescue plan would give Washington broad authority to purchase bad mortgage-related assets from U.S. financial institutions for the next two years. It does not specify which institutions qualify or what, if anything, the government would get in return for the unprecedented infusion.

>The US is so deeply in debt, both private and govt., to other countries that the US dollar is quite simply on the verge of collapse. It is worthless paper backed by nothing.

George Bush has destroyed the US economy, and our futures.

Babylon. Persia. Ancient Egypt. Ancient Rome. Ancient Greece. Mongols. Mayans. Aztecs. Ottoman Empire. Napoleonic Empire. British Empire. Third Reich Germany. USSR.

And soon to join that list: USA.

All great powers fall. NO EXCEPTIONS. And who'll replace them as No.1? China. I for one welcome our Far Eastern overlords. Better start learning Mandarin & Atheism, America.

Total Public Debt Outstanding 01/22/2001 5,728,195,796,181.57

Debt looks set to easily break the magic 10 trillion barrier by the time His Majesty George Bush II abdicates. In other words public debt will have increased by at least 3/4 under his incompetent rule. Fiscal conservatives, what a crock.

That is so untrue it isn't funny. Under Clinton the (successful) goal was balanced budgets. Bush gave a big hearty fuck you to that idea. He never ever vetoed a single measure voted by the Republican-dominated congress as it went on a spending orgy even as taxes were cut. Or as Cheney put it: "Deficits don't matter, Reagan proved that." It does matter who you vote for.

Maybe that's why God sent George W down to Earth, to finish what Reagan started: bankrupting the Cold War superpowers out of existence.

Yes, and bankrupted America in the process. GG George. Remember, kids:

Republican = BAD
Democrat = GOOD

USA never had it so good, and was respected & loved when they had JFK, Carter & Clinton. USA was fucked up when they had Nixon, Ford, Reagan & Bushs Mk I & II.

You do the maths. It's Obama's turn, to repair the damage, and to further prove that the Right are WRONG for the US.

>> No.8716

The Right/Left divide in US politics is closer to a bad cop/good cop setup than anything else. The Republicans take charge for a couple of terms and completely wreck the economy, start a few wars with no substantial justification beyond "blowing shit up feels good!" and generally give the finger to anyone not personally a member of the Mega Rich Elite Club, whether US citizens or international. Then the Democrats ask meekly for a term, during which they put band aids on all the boo boos the country/world has taken from the last few terms and tell everyone that everything's going to be better next time. Rinse. Repeat.

Both parties push the same agenda of corporatism, economic warfare and debt serfdom. One of them just has a track record of doing so with a smile and a wave. The system itself is the problem; it resembles an abusive relationship.

Why do you hate the US and love China so much. Do you really think that the Chinese will support your lifestyle? I ask this because most of you BAWWWING atheists are fags.

America will always remain a CHRISTIAN country even if by some small chance we lose our status as a superpower.

And the best way to fix America's finances is to cut off all foreign aid to EVERYONE until our economy is fixed because no one seems to be helping us on OUR TIME OF NEED

United States of America (Press Release) September 19, 2008 -- The lawsuit, brought under California's consumer protection statutes, was filed in the Sacramento County Superior Court. The lawsuit alleges that an excessive number of XBOX 360 consoles have failed, resulting in what is commonly known in the gaming community as the "red ring of death". The lawsuit further alleges that Microsoft concealed the excessive failure rate of its XBOX 360 consoles in order to compete with the pending launch of Sony's Playstation 3 and Nintendo's Wii gaming systems.

The lawsuit cites to a number of recent articles published in gaming trade journals and on popular websites including VentureBeat Digital Media and Yahoo! Those articles contend that Microsoft knew as far back as November 2005 that over 50% of the XBOX 360 consoles involved in the initial sales launch were defective.

The class action lawsuit seeks an order that Microsoft disgorge all profits attributable to its sale of the XBOX 360, as well as that Microsoft publicly announce and implement a refund program in California.

3rd Infantry’s 1st BCT trains for a new dwell-time mission. Helping ‘people at home’ may become a permanent part of the active Army

The 3rd Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team has spent 35 of the last 60 months in Iraq patrolling in full battle rattle, helping restore essential services and escorting supply convoys.

Now they’re training for the same mission — with a twist — at home.

Beginning Oct. 1 for 12 months, the 1st BCT will be under the day-to-day control of U.S. Army North, the Army service component of Northern Command, as an on-call federal response force for natural or manmade emergencies and disasters, including terrorist attacks.

"the T-Mobile G1 phone.

Internet search giant Google launched its long-awaited mobile phone on Tuesday, unveiling a handset developed with telecom carrier T-Mobile to compete with rival Apple's hot-selling iPhone." [yahoo photos]

>> No.8709

I don't exactly know the workings of this iPhone rival, but at least it doesn't need the fucking awful iTunes to transfer tracks to it. I once had an iPod Nano - don't get me wrong, it's operation was smooth as silk, and the sound - through Sennheiser headphones - was amazing... that was when I eventually got tracks onto it. I found iTunes to be a complete pain in the arse (especially with me, more used to dragging & dropping via nothing more than Windows Explorer or the equivalent ACDSee). I have MP3s in more than one HD, so that was the main bugbear, coupled with the way iTunes takes over part of your computer. So much for 'ease of use', Apple.

I'll never use another Apple product again - particularly an iPod, until they supply a utility that rewrites the firmware so you have the option of NOT using iTunes, and can transfer tracks by just Dragging & Dropping, and NOT via software you're FORCED to use (nor any other third party utility).

I think I'll be buying a T-Mobile G1. Sod the iPhone.

Even after Mr. Letterman brought out Keith Olbermann, the MSNBC host and vituperative Republican critic as the substitute guest for Mr. McCain, he continued to assail Mr. McCain for the decision to cancel the appearance. His critique reached a high point when he learned that at the very moment Mr. McCain was supposed to be on the couch next to him being interviewed, the senator was at the CBS News center three blocks away in Manhattan, getting ready to be interviewed by the CBS News anchor, Katie Couric.

Mr. Letterman ordered his director to put on a live feed from that location, which showed Mr. McCain getting made up to go on with Ms. Couric. “He doesn’t seem to be racing to the airport,” Mr. Letterman observed.

After listening to some questions from Ms. Couric, Mr. Letterman said, “Hey, John, I’ve got a question: You need a lift to the airport?”

Bowing to President Bush's demands, the House passed a mammoth package for the Pentagon on Wednesday that contains a pay raise for troops, billions of dollars for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan — and some political protection for lawmakers during a tense election season.

The 392-39 vote sent the $612 billion defense authorization bill to the Senate, which was expected to clear it quickly.

"The Pakistani army has found the wreckage of a suspected US spy plane near the Afghan border but has denied claims it was shot down.

A military spokesman told the BBC that the drone was recovered on Tuesday in the South Waziristan tribal area and the wreckage was being examined.

The spokesman said the crash appeared to have been due to a malfunction.

The US has not confirmed the loss of the drone. It has denied that any of its aircraft have been shot down."
