Anyways.I can see how Dmitry is pissed about the west getting up in Georgia's business. Georgia was being a little turd, so Russia attacked. This has nothing to do with the west, at all. It's a waste of money and it looks bad.

>>8343 is meAnd it is the truth, We usually send our navy to aid in relief efforts around the world. Russia would know that if they paid attention. But they don't.And Georgia is our business because we courted them as allies -- as we did in much of Eastern Europe. If we promised to protect them, than by god we should keep our word. The reason that we aren't more involved in the matter (NATO, not just the USA) is that we're essentially paper tigers -- we lack the will to commit to a battle against a regional power like Russia. We can kick the shit out of a nation like Iraq that lives in mud huts and hasn't been allowed an air force in 15+ years. But against an army and airforce with real kick we'd run. It's a matter of will, and our enemies know that now. Don't think that Iran and China can't figure out that the West won't deal with a real power. They watch the news. Ukraine watches the news too, and they sure as shit know that if Russia turns to the Ukraine, they can't count on their "allies" in NATO to do much more than send a polite letter to Russia asking them not to invade any more countries.

MANSFIELD, Massachusetts (AP) -- A solitary sheep is living life in the fast lane.An animal shelter worker spotted the sheep last week grazing just feet from traffic on a wooded highway median near Mansfield. How it got there is a mystery but police first received reports of the animal about a year ago at the junction of Interstates 495 and 95. A number of rescue efforts have failed because the animal is afraid of people, and authorities are wary of using tranquilizers because a drugged animal could wander onto the road.North Attleboro shelter volunteer Linda Faber contacted a sanctuary in New York that offered some suggestions for catching the sheep. One idea is to set up a pen with another sheep to take advantage of the flock instinct."The longer that the sheep is there, the more likely he or she will be too wild to approach, and the most likely problem of course is that the sheep will be injured by a motorist," said Susie Coston, national shelter director for the Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen, New York. Nah, not possible -- more likely it's the Islamist Death Squads. US ordnance is smart, it doesn't kill good people. The Islamists must've come in afterward, butchered a good number of women and children and lined them up for counting. Because they hate Freedom.
"By taking control of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the Bush administration has launched a high-stakes bid to bolster the housing market and the US economy – seeking to minimize costs to taxpayers even as it puts them on the hook.Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson on Sunday announced a federal conservatorship for the two mortgage giants, which play a key role in the housing market, now rocked by falling home values and high rates of foreclosure. The action begins a formal Treasury role that, just a few weeks ago, Secretary Paulson said he expected to avoid. Fannie and Freddie, as private companies created by government mandate, have long been seen as implicitly backed by the Treasury. "http://news.yahoo.com/s/csm/20080908/ts_csm/afanfred

"First Seinfeld Vista Ad is Out: And Makes No Sense""You might not be the only one underwhelmed by the new $300 million advertising campaign Microsoft launched last night featuring Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates. The new ad was aired initially during the NFL kickoff game on NBC and is also available now on Windows.com. (Maybe not so ironically, the video is only playing for me in Internet Explorer - not Firefox.)In the new ad, Seinfeld finds Gates in a discount shoe shop and starts sizing up his shoe size (10). When Gates says that the shoes he was trying on are too tight, Seinfeld comes with his idea of making them looser, wondering if Bill ever tried wearing his shoes in the shower (Bill said "never"). In the end, Gates gives Seinfeld a wiggle confirming that Microsoft is going to come out "with something moist and chewy like cake." Yep, that's it... Just one reference to Microsoft and nothing else."http://blogs.pcworld.com/staffblog/archives/007668.html

There are epic blockbusters 2 hours long which don't take $300 million to produce. Ignoring the first commercial, the remaining two, five, ten, however many had damn well better be impressive to justify this sort of money-burning. Bottomless pockets or not, what Microsoft has done amounts to major financial irresponsibility -- and as a stock holder I would be pissed. And that's assuming the commercials were even average.
I agree, that ad didnt make eny freaken seens. But then agean its not as annoying as thous freaken Mac ads.

>>8331Good point. But given the reality of how expensive it is to purchase television commercial airtime, wouldn't you be much better off spending that $300 million in subtle "insert ads" in major motion pictures, video games, and television series? If Sony and Apple can do it, there's no reason why Microsoft can't.Basically take this commercial but 180° in reverse, with the advertisement hidden inside the show rather than the show used to produce the ad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V70bLAPevMc
