"Attorney General Michael Mukasey said on Friday that military proceedings against detainees at in the U.S. prison camp in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba will proceed despite a U.S. Supreme Court ruling the previous day.

The Court voted 5-4 on Thursday to allow terror suspects at the American Naval Base to challenge their detentions in U.S. civilian courts. The ruling declares a 2006 law that took away Guantanamo prisoners' rights to file habeas corpus petitions, unconstitutional."

"Berlin, Germany (AHN) - By 2010, a green tax would be collected on German car owners with the tax based on the vehicle's carbon emissions instead of engine size.

The levy would be collected by the federal government, which would subsequently compensate German states $13.7 billion (8.9 billion euro) for their revenue loss.

"According to a new report released by the Center Health, Environment and Justice, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) shower curtains give off toxic chemicals which can be very harmful to your health.

For the study, they looked at five house-brand shower curtains from Wal-Mart, Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, K-Mart, and Sears.

The report was released on June 12 and found that when these type of PVC shower curtains are unpacked and are brand new, they give off a total of 108 toxic chemicals."

"One of the last shipments to a U.S. research base in Antarctica before the onset of winter darkness was a year's supply of condoms, a New Zealand newspaper reported Monday.

Bill Henriksen, the manager of the McMurdo base station, said nearly 16,500 condoms were delivered last month and would be made available, free of charge, to staff throughout the year to avoid the potential embarrassment of having to buy them.

The base only has a skeleton staff through the long winter."

"A mission is under way to rescue more than 100 whales trapped in a bay in the north of Madagascar.

About 30 whales have already died and experts are being flown in from across the world.

The site is near an area where ExxonMobil is carrying out seismic surveys but the oil company has denied any link. "
