LOL, I remember trying the boardgame...and I thought the Roleplay was rules heavy. How do you GM 2 light mechs that couldn't hit the broad side of a barn or do enough damage in an hour...if the did hit.

I'd rather have a BOLO or OGRE.

But it has a rich setting.
>>112Battletech may be a niche game, but it knows its niche and caters to it very well

>>112Its not that rules heavy... once you know the ruleset and use a few really simple cheats (like keeping a D10 next to each mech so you know the modifier for how fast it moved when shooting at it)... it goes by pretty fast. 45 minutes a mech is really bloody slow. Also spend 25 cents and make everyone a copy of the combat modifier sheets... has damn near everything you need to know. The game really only gets bogged down when someone is using artillery, air craft, mines, or hidden unit rules. And even then.. it only gets marginally more complex if everyone knows the rules and aren't going to reference a few books.Don't be daunted by a 20 year old rule set... its a good beer and pretzel game engine that you can do a good deal with, has a moderately good amount of detail, and is not some oversimplified click game pushed to make us want to buy more and more and more. Keep playing and eventually you will get company on company sized battles done in a day and still have time to hit the bars afterwards.
