318064 No.26

Okay since i don't like it if this boards ends up in Limbo so fast and to help 4-chans "m" board to get rid of some of the Warhammer 40k threads.

I start one. With following questions.

Okay why should someone play the Orks?
Do they ever have won a big campaign?
How are good are they in battle?
Should there be new types of Orks?
Should changes be made in the next Codex?

>> No.27

I have several armies but not the Orks yet. I'll say this, you can win with any army against any other army in ths game. You have to know the armies inside and out, strengths and weaknesses, etc. As long as you make the proper unit selections you'll be fine. As for Orks, all the armies could use some tweaks in the codex. Lastly, in Warhammer 40k there is no other army that has as much flavor and character as the Orks. That alone makes them cool.

Well the Orks where on place 5 of the Medusa V rang list yet they official managed to escape the Planet with theire Boss and a captured Imperial Battleship.

The Orkz have a nice style of seeing war:
If we win a battle, we defeat the enemy, then we win.
If we don't win a battle, we run away and come back later, so we aren't defeated.
If we come back and defeat the enemy we win.
So we never Lose.

Just image what would happen if they would have the intelegence of Warcraft orks (which where based on the Warhammer).

Nope thats not what he meant. Warcraft was original planned to be a Warhammer game. However Games Workshop didn't gave the green light so they changed some of the things and renamed it Warcraft. Over the time the Warcraft orks became much more different from the Warhammer orks.
For examples Warcraft orks are smart as humans while Warhammer orks are more stupid then a piece of wood.

They have the mental capacity of severly inebriated scotsmen.

Heehee, my pic sure is getting around, ain't it. :P

Anyways, I attempted to start an Ork army a while back, but it never really got off the ground, so I can't really talk about strategies and strengths/weaknesses and all that, aside from the obvious.

What I can and WILL say is, if you like converting stuff, Orks are PARADISE.

You can just cut and glue together pretty much anything and it'll look good. You don't need to worry with putty and perfection, because it's SUPPOSED to look makeshift and ramshackle. If you play Space Marines and want a Heavy Bolter, you need to buy one. If you play Orks and want a Big Shoota, just stick a couple of Shootas together! You can scratch-build stuff too pretty easily.

I actually started building a Gargant, but after I abandoned the Orks I turned what I had done of it into some scenery. It's pretty much just a polystyrene base, with parts of pop cans affixed to it with carpet tacks. That's what I mean - converting Ork stuff is really easy, really fun, and turns out looking really good.

>> No.115

I think the primary reason to play Orks is that you're interested in conversions. You can take a looted tank, Battlewagons, and Loota boys, all of which will require conversion an scratchbuilding. You can make all sorts of otherwise expensive Ork units with the regular boyz and some extra parts.

I can't really help you with the other questions. I don't play competitively.

>>58 Not true at all, orkz are just more straight-forward than humans. There is a significant difference.

>> No.119

Orks, from what I've seen, are like the Wii. They have potential. Orks by themselves are tough, with an extra attack, and in addition, they're pretty cheap (about 8 points for a Boy each, if I recall). They're pretty good in close combat against a comparable troop. In addition, you get Orky devices which, if you are lucky, can be great. Of course, you could get unlucky and it blow up in your face, stall up on your, or what have you.

They needs to rerelease Epic...

Gargant Big Mobs ruled.
Who cares if you win as long as you have spirit and shock on your side :D ...and a few gargants :D
That and Squat Mega Cannons :D

>> No.245

-A squad of Ork Boys with Choppas eat things in heavy armor (like Termies) for breakfast.
-A Battle wagon, with a zap gun, hauling around 10 mega-armored Nobs can cause SERIOUS damage (i know, I run that).
-Scout Lootas with Sniper Rifles. No one expects Shooty Orks.

Orks are the most fun to build, paint and play... as long as you don't take the game too seriously.

Watching the Wartrukk explode from a penetrating hit while its near the enemy. Having your Looted Leman Russ lurch a foot forward because your orks pushed the wrong button. Managing to save your vehicle thanks to Extra Armor and some VERY lucky rolls one turn, then having all your Lootas shoot themselves on the next.

ORKS. ARE. FUN.
The only reason you need.

You un-orky git. You a blood axe ain't ya?

>Nope thats not what he meant. Warcraft was original planned to be a Warhammer game.

Probably the most repeated misinformation about Warcraft/Starcraft.

And how are Orks? Unupdated. Wait for the new Codex.

Orks are a multi-role gambler's army. Against Tau you need a swarm of gretchins for cannon fodder whilst your boyz move in. VS imperial guard you use weird and wonderful orky weapons to wreak havoc with their tanx whilst your choppers spray down their infantry. VS space marines put a load of big boyz and ogres in an APC engage the marines with your cheap tough boys then send the APC across enemy lines, unload the berserkers and scream "waah". Against Tyranids, spam boyz and have a good leader keep morale up, kill as many as you can and you will outnumber them when it comes to hand to hand, boyz are difficult to slaughter, a a "waah" is fine too.

CAuze the Orkz is da biggest and da strongest!

Joking aside... play them for fun? Orks have interesting strategies. The so-called "green tide", for example-- even the lowliest ork has very good close combat abilities. Send a large enough group at the enemy, and SOME fo them will manage to get close enough to get into melee range, and thus wipe them out.

That's just a simplified tactic with them. There's plenty of others. And let's be honest. Everyone needs to enjoy a good WAAAGH!!! every now and then.

>> No.357

too bad almost noone remembers that 40K was used to be a game for fun.

>> No.359

Too bad noone remembers only because most of them honestly enjoy the game :P

In non-official matches, rules can be bent for the sake of fun-- in fact, it repeatedly mentions that in the codices.
