This might be a stupid question but I would like to ask.
Idlechan seems like a pretty big place, but this place seems so slow.
Why is that?
Are there just not enough people who care about this site?
Yeah. 4chan pulls many of the first-time, new-to-the-imageboard community because of its size. Places like iichan, wtfux, 7chan, etc are more specialized for certain audiences. iichan has a high percentage of anime fans, wtfux has camwhores, 7chan has... uh, 4channers who don't like 4chan.
There's nothing wrong with us, we're just not huge, and we're OK with that.
Idlechan is a big place, with over a hundred boards. It's like a modern mass in a cathedral. A few hundred show up in a building built for thousands. That, and everybody keeps comparing the numbers with the super mall down the road. Kinda unfair as 4chan is one of the biggest forums on the net.
wow, we really have 100?
I counted 96 of them, not including discussion boards.
hello, my question is of some delicacy. in the past on the board which i frequent the most if i have seen some material posted that is a clear and gross violation of posting standards i have requested in the board for the moderator to delete the post in question. i have noticed, however, that there is a delete function in the boards that requires a password. per inquiries from my board, can an individual poster delete either a mistakenly uploaded or violating post. i have accidentally forgotten to upload a picture now and then and wanted to delete my mistake so i could just respond once and save space on the board. i tried to delete but could not.
so- how is deleting done? and who is authorized to do it? i am also concerned that if anyone had the power to delete then we could have another problem of rampant deleting per the whims of who ever may decide to visit the site.
in our board, http://www.wakachan.org/elf/wakaba.html, aka "PE" we have a tradition of having a PE Queen. this means a favorite character is secretly voiced by one particular poster who is a long time visitor to PE and is well practiced in acting and leadership skills. in the past, i recall i replied directly to an inappropriate and likely illegal image and it was promptly removed. PE members are very supportive of each other and have embraced the idea of a Queen, much to her delight and she feels great responsibility to honor their trust. in the future, our Queen would like to expand her power. she wants to reply to offensive posts inside the board to help keep PE clean of violating posts. she wants to know if she did reply to an offensive/ illegal post, would her reply be acted on as promptly as the previous example so her "power" would seem real.
also, as this process of asking questions via a discussion board is not always convenient, she wants PE members to come to her with any site related questions that she'd ask you then reply in the board with her answer. most times questions would be easy, but a few may require a little more help. Thank you very much for your time, I know this is a little long for a question but these are important issues to our board.
You're taking this roleplaying way too seriously. Ask the admin to make you a mod and you can skip all the unnecessary extra steps. If you're not accepted as a mod, then you're unlikely to get any other privileges either. It doesn't sit well with the spirit of anonymous boards to have posters openly show off their special status. The idea is that it's the message, not the messenger that should matter. What you're asking for is taking your creation in a direction where it's very much the messenger that matters. You play the queen to strengthen the community, but this could backfire and create a whole lot of counter-productive drama and ill-feeling.
thank you for your reponse. i understand allthat, that is why i work with a light touch. the things i asked about were things i was ruminating and i wanted your opinion more or less. as it stands, our board did in fact elect a queen. i didn't start the tradition, some one else did a long long time ago. and its still going. all previous "queens" did nothing. this is the first time one acts but only to enourage posters. i let them react to "her" as they will, and i don't like posting Queen messages verry often save for special incidents. in pe we have many anonymous posters and many non-anonymous posters all who conbtribute grately. whoever they are they come and go and post as they please. i consistenly remind people of PE's queen tradition to keep it alive, and they are totally cool with it every time. if not, they ask questions or just get bored of pe regardless of a queen or not and i never hear about it. funny you should mention it, today we got a new poster raising long since dead doubt of hte PE queen's tradition. ok i got mad at them. but such incidents basically have not happened once at all until now.lately, the queen role has been more popular than ever but i do desire to back away more away, interjecting with small encouragments like i normally do just once in a while. PE works better that way wiht the quen only having a light presence so the board can florish under its own merits -as it does quite nicely i may add. for now, yes, it would be nice to have moderator capabilites but its been a long time since PE has had any violating incursions and the mod team at waka is great so i have no worries. one thing is for sure i will enojoy passing the torch to another "voice" if another chooses to accept it. odd thing is i dont like "role playing" one iota i wouldn't invest thought in an unproductive mode of positve reinforcment. i just thoght -hey, why not try this and bang posters were very positive. i was surprised and my seriousness as a poster and as the occasional queen come from a real sense of care seing people just having a fun time together. well, thanks, take care.

hello thsi quesion is for the admin and or moderator/s of iichan involved with Photo/HiRes. i reported to PE the size constraints of our board. infact i quoted nearly word for word what i was informed here so the information would be accurate.
hearing this, a prominent poster became concerned and wondered if he should post a picture relevant to our board in HiRes, then post a link to that picture in PE. that way, we can go to the picture and see it with out filling up PE too quickly. there are of course many concernts with doing this and i told him and every one to hold and see what i find out. here are teh issues:
i thank you. and no i do not belive i am taking this too seriosly. in PE we respect one another and help each other out for the good of our board this so what ever time we spend there is not only fun but well run. there is a certain pride and peace of mind when we operate in a properly informed manner.
hello. i have spoke with blackmage and asked him how to become a moderator. he responded i could post an inquiry here or in the irc channel. now, yeah, i am new to this internal stuff so is he irc he's refing to this: irc://irc.zirc.org:6667/iichan ?
hmmmm i just tried but can't seem to access it on my computer.
he also mentioned the "hires" board. what is that? where do i find it?
at any rate, yes, i am interested in becoming a moderator of the pointy ears board in wakachan. i do not think we have a moderator already. i have been very active in PE, am the longest serving member and have earned the respect of my posting peers. i have also taken on the responsibility of learning how the ins and outs of the board work so to better serve PE's growing needs. it has been a learning process, but enjoyable. i want to take on the challenge as moderator to better protect and nourish the native vitality of our PE board. i thank you for your time and will appreciate your response.
oh, by "hires" board i mean Hire, like in hired for a job ---- not hires as in Hi resolution---- but i hope that was obivious.
Cognac250, the person you want to talk to is dmpk2k-- reach his via admin@wakachan.org
unfortunately i get this message :Delivery to the following recipients failed.
the email i sent to admin@wakachan.org bounced back.
is that the correct email? why would it not work? is there another way to contact dmpk2k? do they frequent a particular board here in iichan or wakachan where i could get their attention? alsom i c an not access the irc board, either. i realy would like to get ahold of dmpk2k any help you could provide would be great. thanks.
Cognac250, your intentions are good, and I applaud your enthusiasm, but...
While I am not opposed to having a moderator specifically for /elf/, and roleplay is just fine, you'll have to demonstrate to me that you're qualified. This includes:
I hold moderators to much higher standards than a normal poster. If you can demonstrate good posting etiquette over the next couple months, I'll consider it. Ask me again in August.
To my previous statement of >>12, I'd like to add this:
dmpk2k is Love.
Could this place may be slow because of the lack of an organized structure? Maybe there's just too many of these types of boards now that the number of boards have already outnumbered the number of people that would post to this type of board (read:attention whores). There's also the question of finding a specific post or topic can prove to be difficult when the posts grow? Labeling of pictures can also cause some problems. Also, another problem could be because the posts can't be transferred to another topic if a new topic opens up. It just takes some getting used to. Why aren't there any poker or ringtone ads on this board? There's no code. There's also not enough mittens, slackers.
>>20 Fish just HATE.
>>22 >>Why aren't there any poker or ringtone ads on this board? There's no code.
A combination of silent moderation and spam traps.
iiChan can keep quality standards in many of its boards because it is small.
People who arrive on iiChan/wakachan either come from 4chan or don't know anything about imageboards and all that. They eventually adapt, or leave. Growing too fast would either make each board like 4chan, or just like every random phpBB (just without the avatars).
Some details could be fixed (like the header of some boards, with all the outdated cryptic abbreviated links), but the loose organization and the lo-tech aspect don't need any fixing: it's supposed to be this way, and it works.
These are good times, really. Thanks to all the site admins who make this possible.
> There's also not enough mittens, slackers.
/sgis/. Also, http://www.anonib.com/mittens/
I've been meaning to update both versions of the headers for a few weeks now. I'll take this as an excuse and hopefully get it done tonight. Any other board admin are free to copy it then.
Thanks for responding. I appreciate and understand your response I eventually resorted to emailing you my question. In both attempts, my emails failed to deliver. Long story short, my questions via email were far more polished than these earlier questions above. Now that I know I can get a hold of you this way, shall contacting you via the discussion board be preferred for you?
As I put time into crafting emails to present to you my request, please permit me to share my request as I intended for you to read:
Hello my online name is Cognac250. I am and have been a highly active member of Pointy Ears : http://www.wakachan.org/elf/wakaba.html I am also with in my knowledge the longest serving member and have earned the respect of my posting peers. I have also taken on the responsibility of learning how the ins and outs of the board work so to better serve PE's growing needs. It has been a learning process, but enjoyable. Before taking on a possible moderator role, I would to know more about what it means and entails for I have only met kind directions but no description. Upon reaching you, could you be kind enough to describe to me exactly what a moderator does and how.
I want to become a moderator to better protect and nourish the native vitality of our PE board. If you accept my request may I for a moment please you with a moment's pause? In the democratic nature of PE, I would like to ask my peers if they will accept me as moderator. Only then could I, with your initial approval, accept the duty. If PE says yes, then I will contact you with my decision. I thank you for your time and will appreciate your response.
That was my email which twice failed to deliver via hotmail. I am concerned, also, to what are you referring when you say spam? It is not that I am not familiar with the term, but tell me sir if you are directing that point specifically at me? If so, could you please elucidate me with specific examples. If it is a matter of general advice, then of course I should never intend to spam. As I have mentioned before, I am growing in my experience with such boards and am in earnest to learn.
Second matter of concern, and take no offense, sir, what do you mean by “sock puppets”? It’s not the fact that I am relatively newer to iichan and wakachan, sir, but I prefer clear, direct and concise terms with no ambiguity or generality in professional discourse. I may infer what you mean, but that not as useful as a more exacting declaration.
In my demonstration of posting etiquette, does this mean you read in on PE from time to time? And, may I be permitted to assume that you have the power to see the ip address of any post? This is some thing I have wondered of in the past. If I am to be watched and measured against a strict necessitude, then I would like set to me exact terms of etiquette. Let’s assume I am a dolt, and know nothing of these matters and spell the rules clearly so I may with out exception follow them completely.
Finally, you say “role playing is fine”. Believe me sir, I do not intend to abuse or cause ill content among my posters by secretly giving voice to the Queen. I do this with a careful and responsive touch. Currently I seek to bring the voice of the Queen more into background. The Queen is a long tradition predating my first coming into PE. I am, however, the first to my knowledge to give her a voice. It is a complex yet stubble thing at which I am improving. I do not think it as classical rpg role-playing but using my voice-acting skills to add to the special sense of PE’s creative uniqueness. Even without a speaking Queen, PE fans are subtly different from other boards. They created their tradition, I merely sail its currents. We have posters from all over the world. They put heir hearts into their votes, and each of their voices counted then and still count now. I was so impressed and moved as election vote counter by the large heart that is our board. It was like watching Santa Claus being born each time a new Queen was elected. They all know she’s not real, but are devoted to the idea of a Queen all the same. Even as I back off, and the voice of the newest Queen becomes more still, you can still sense among us a common thread of humanity. And because the Queen, whether voiced or not, symbolized unity, she symbolizes us and our dreams which bring us to PE. Electing a Queen It is a lovely tradition that I and others hope endures long.
No, I am not their Queen, of course. As my self, I post as I or any one else would in an independent and free way. Who voices the Queen is a secret, and needs to stay that way as part of the illusion.
Because I post as my self and the Queen, I have a double role. It is not my policy for the Queen to post anything but text and a picture of herself. Only when the board requests it, or as a special reward, does she post. This dual capacity is not spamming. I have two jobs at PE, one is my self and two as the Queen. It’s just that simple. If an admin did not know that, they would be confused and just label me a spammer which would be wrong if they knew the full picture. Additionally, as a real queen would look after her people, I have sought for a way to inform PE with various matters of importance. In doing so, I speak with other admins and mods to obtain correct information pertinent to our board which I then pass on verbatim to PE via the Queen’s character. This has been greatly effective, bringing mostly hidden knowledge to the people at large. When that information is at large, then I as my self help carefully manage the effects so we all act responsibly on that new knowledge. PE greatly appreciates the Queens’s actions, my subsequent follow-ups and have empowered themselves to use the growth in knowledge responsibly, governing themselves in the process. It is really a marvelous thing to see unfold. I only voice the Queen as long as all of PE accepts it the Queen, and they do. In my capacity as my self, Cognac250, PE has come to recognize me as polite, generous and just as silly as they are; as a guy who gladly gives a hand and a positive word. They also know me as strong minded when it comes to defense of PE, so I think PE would not at all be much surprised if I told them my interests in becoming a moderator. And if I never become one, I have shown I can work in the board as a respected, pro-active member. I am not vain-glorious, posters have in fact treated me very well and at times with deferment per my view on matters. I in no way treat this lightly or with frivolity as I respect one and all for who each poster is.
I look forward to continuing dialog with you. The above is, yes, long, but in order to understand my position it takes a bit of substantiation. As such, all future communications being hereby brought up to speed will be short and sweet.
Ps: Please let no word of the Queen’s voice-actor be known. Second, I am wondering if I should announce my interest in becoming a moderator now in PE. That way, you could see their input to this interest at the same time while you are monitoring my activity. Should it help you to see how PE reacts to my request to them? I thank you very much.
dmpk2k , Thank you for responding. My early inquires on this board prior to 2007-06-09 23:47 were not typical of my language. Now that I have found that I can most effectively reach you on this board, I will any direct future questions for you here.
Per your recommendations, please:
Thank you, Cognac 250.

Uh? That is odd, I do not know why it posted twice. I only meant once, sorry about that. My local internet connection is being overhauled so I've had lots of irregular connection. I’m not sure if that is what caused my message to double post. Any way, thanks.
If by /hr/ you mean the Photo/HiRes board, we discussed the proper use of the board and the standards to adhere to when linking to it from another board. I consider the matter closed and would appreciate it if you would not hold it against the offending users.
dmpk2k, Thank you for your response. I had discussed matters pertaining to the use of HiRes. I had discussions with blackmage on this issue. Below is a copy of our email.
Me: is it proper to "link" across boards like this?
BM: Sure!
Me: who's permission do we need to link like this?
BM: Mine. (given, btw)
Me:when we follow a link of a pict in HiRes from PE in what manner is it best to follow that link: -should we click on the link and access
directly or is a copy-pasting of the url into a different window better? is there a difference between the approaches?
Bm: If you click on the link, it lets me know who's linking to me. If you could link to the threads and not directly to the images (hotlinking or deeplinking) that would be awesome.
Me: as only verry large picts are of concern here, not many- ie not a massive amount of picts will end up in HiRes.
BM: I'm increasing the thread retention limits on the photo board right now (they were kind of low to start off with and I enjoy most of the posted content.) They should be in place by the time you get this. Also, it would be megas awesome if you could link from the hires thread back to the thread on the board you're posting from (so the threads link to each other) as this prevents double posting and makes everyone happy all around.
Bm: If anyone on the Photo/HiRes board complains, feel free to refer them to me or post a copy of this message. I can be reached via email at blackmage@blackmage.org or via irc at irc://irc.zirc.org:6667/iichan
- Black Mage, Idlechannel acting custodian.
dmpk2k, Prior to figuring out how to properly link to threads, I had to run tests. At that time I was un aware of “sandbox” where experiments of such nature are carried out. Therefore, I posted apologies and explanations in HiRes and continued any further tests in sandbox. Once I had figured out how to properly link to a thread, I posted an introduction to what would be an increased presence of PE-type picts on HiRes. I did this out of consideration for the board, as commensurate with my conscientiousness and concern for proper protocol. As people in HiRes and those from PE may have read those introductions, I, yes, responded to my own thread to remind PE to be on their best behavior. In PE its self I and another poster worked together and devised the policy by which all further PE would post in HiRes. Those rules are posted in the same said introduction to ourselves in HiRes. I monitor PE and HiRes for any discrepancy from responsible posting as per proper conduct. I thank you for your time.
dmpk2k, I am under no illusion that it takes valuable time to read questions here. But I assure you, sir, as I am in deep earnest to have you understand my position. While in your review of PE over the next months. I would like to highlight my past behavior in PE so to facilitate your perusal.
I post in three different ways. This is in no way meant to excuse any of my actions, for I am in earnest to be utterly honest and grow. I need the input of others especially concerning issues that are on the fuzzy side. One: I post as my self. Two, I often post anonymously. I feel ambivalent about doing that and wonder of its ethicacy. I only post as anonymous when the picture I post is either outside my usual style or to drum up interest as it looks like more people are posting. I have decided this is indeed dishonest to myself, others and the integrity of our board to post in this second manner. Three: only when a post makes me so utterly angry that I can not adequately vent, I have in the past posted first as my self then do anonymous follow ups in increasingly calmer and collective voice. Yes, again this is somewhat dishonest but functions more as something like a white lie. However angry I may become, my recent response style to such an issue was no model of proper behavior. From now on, I will post only as my self, Cognac250 and the as the democratically elected voice of the Queen where I secretly use my skills as a voice actor to positively reinforce good social behavior.
One last thing, I have wondered if I should tell PE of my interest in becoming a moderator. I have decided not to, so as to preserve normal behavior in our board so when you go looking things won’t be artificial. I have been posting at PE for a long time and in my time have gained the respect of my peers. If I were to become a moderator, I know that PE would welcome me as such. Again, I thank you and every one else for your gracious kindness and time.
> Prior to figuring out how to properly link to threads, I had to run tests.
I know why you did the thing with /hr/, and I've read that discussion with BlackMage before. I encourage cross-board pollination, so that's not the problem.
I take issue with what you just did here: you blast people with several posts filled with large blocks of text. For example, you didn't have to let all of /elf/ and /hr/ know that you were doing tests; you should have just told them the results when you were finished doing them.
Here's what you should do in the future: write down everything you want to say. Now stop. Ask yourself if you really need to say all that? Can you make it shorter? Are you repeating yourself (you tend to do that)? Shorter is better.
Now run it through Microsoft Word, fix any spelling and grammar mistakes, and then post it all as a single post. Not two or three consecutive posts. Just the one. People come to imageboards to look at pictures or engage in short discussions, not read essays.
> Three: only when a post makes me so utterly angry that I can not adequately vent, I have in the past posted first as my self then do anonymous follow ups in increasingly calmer and collective voice.
The other two styles of posting are fine, as is the Queen Astarot persona. Posting while pissed off isn't. If you're angry, go do something else for a while. Never post when upset, because what is said or written in anger cannot be taken back.
You'd best learn this young because I've seen one person destroy their career with a single angry email, and another their relationship over the phone. I know it's hard, but it'll spare you a lot of grief later on. Get started now.
> I have wondered if I should tell PE of my interest in becoming a moderator.
A wise decision. Moderators don't exist to feel good about themselves, they exists to keep a board running smoothly. As such, moderators do not tell others they are moderators, and when exercising their powers they do so silently.
Having said that, I am willing to make you a mod, but first you need to demonstrate to me that you're prepared for it. Ask me again in a couple months. If you have any other questions before then, please ask.
A friend has this to say. Short and sweet:
<!Nish> If you can use one word, don't type one hundred. No one will read it.
You can compress all of >>36 into that one line.
Point taken. Thank you.
dmpk2k, and blackmage. It does not have anything to do with the many wise things you told me. I hold nothing against you.
Over the last month, worldly needs increasingly bid me elsewhere. I withdrawal my interest in being a moderator. Perhaps I'll return when wiser and better equipped. Thank you both. cognac 250.
>>39 You have learned, grasshopper.
hey, dmpk2k, is it ok to post hentai in http://www.wakachan.org/elf/wakaba.html
we all not sure and we would like an offical opinion of if its ok to post hentai in /elf/ or not. thanks.
I'm fairly permissive. While /elf/ isn't a adult board, I have no problem with nudity. Just keep it the exception, not the norm.
However, anything harder than that either belongs in a zip with a warning, or on a board dedicated to the topic. As Cosmo Gunny puts it: "No penetration, no secretion."
By the way, if you're worried about bans, don't be. Nobody gets banned on wakachan.org unless they use a bot or actively try to ruin things.
If there's a problem with a post, it'll just vanish, and nothing more.
dmpk2k:
ps. In AnonIB, I can create my own board and thus become its moderator/admin following first the board’s rules then my own which I will establish in concert with PE.
Thank you.
dmpk2k:
I found out more info from AnonIB's top admin which may assist your opinion of my request.
5. AnonIB’s top admin does not allow linking in general due to spam problems he had in the past. However, via good manners I may warm him over to allow linking between AnonIB and PE threads which is primarily what I want any way.
6. Presently AnonIB is moving to another host. So, it’s best to wait until he's done in a few days before I set up a new site.
These are the last “updates” that you may find useful. I await your reply. Thank you.
I should point out that there is already at least one Elf board on AnonIB though. Creating more boards dilutes things.
dmpk2k:
RE: 4
I concur.
7. However, that site and two similar have depleted or no activity. They did not develop a sustainable action plan or invest with a varied, growing interest base.
8. I am testing the appeal of a new board to PE by asking for their feedback.
9. I am building a positive working relationship with all respected admins, which I hope helps me better represent our board and achieve where others have failed. I thank you for your responses, you have been most kind.
PS: I hope the numbering system I am using is convenient for you to reply to my questions and comments.
Hello- totally seperate question here- as we say in /elf/: "for the love of all that is elf," what is the usename and password for http://kazumi386.org/~nijigen/astarot/ ?
i know some one out there knows or knows how to contact the person incharge of that site. so, please if any one knows anything, all of /elf/ would just love ya to bits! thanks.
7. I think it's a bit more complicated than that, but okay.
8. Sure.
9. Truthfully, I'm not sure why you'd need a good relation with me; I don't do much other than pay for wakachan.org's hosting. What /elf/ does is mostly up to the people who post to it.
Thanks for asking though.
dmpk2k:
Re 9: All the same, thank you for being helpful and for paying for the hosting.
10. If you have not guessed, this is Cognac250 speaking.
11.As I and others are curious, would it be possible to provide a status script for /elf/?. May I ask for that information to be posted here on the discussion board? That is so I may digest it and summarize it for PE in a post with one of my elf pictures to best attract their attention.
12. Also I want to know, if PE ever wanted longer thread retention limits how might be the best way to do that?
Thanks, Cognac250.
> would it be possible to provide a status script for /elf/?
I'm not sure what you mean here. You'll have to elaborate a bit.
> if PE ever wanted longer thread retention limits how might be the best way to do that?
Just ask. :)
I've bumped the board limit from 100 to 200MB. Let me know if that's not enough.
dmpk2k:
By status script I mean an indication of how many bytes are used and available in /elf/. If you could make that information available to me, I could in turn report that information to PE.
Secondly, I have heard the term “cloning” a site. What does that mean and what specifically is bad about it? I was only told it’s bad but not precisely why. I have not been involved in such actions, but I was told that an idea I had sounded similar to cloning. I just want to be sure I understand what was meant by that term.
Thanks, Cognac250.
dmpk2k:
Oh! I'm a dunce. Forgive my manners. Thank you very much for increasing the board limit. That was very generous of you. Thanks again for being so kind and responsive.
> By status script I mean an indication of how many bytes are used and available in /elf/.
Once /elf/ reaches the 200MB size limit, it'll tend to remain there. I presume from >>53 that's what you were referring to.
> I have heard the term “cloning” a site. What does that mean and what specifically is bad about it?
I can guess, but since that term is not commonly used in the context of hosting, I really don't know. Perhaps it refers to running a ripper to duplicate a website, then setting up your own version at a different domain. Typically that violates both moral and copy rights, but neither are asserted in the case of wakachan.org.
Dmpk2k:
1st RE: cloning.
Thank you, that helps.
2nd:
How may uploading Zip files be supported in Hi-Res? Current supported file types are gif, jpg and png. It is my feeling that /elf/ would like to have the option to upload zips as well. I’m running a pool in PE to discuss supporting zips in Hi-Res. I think PE would embrace a way to both expand our options and further demonstrate our thankfulness and consideration for Wakachan’s resources. I thank you for your time and your opinion on this query. Cognac250.
> How may uploading Zip files be supported in Hi-Res?
I'm not the person to talk to about that. /ph/ is handled by someone else.
I've been debating whether to increase the individual filesize limit on /elf/, or again create a board dedicated to archives. Both have issues though.
Dmpk2k:
With whom should I speak about /ph/?
What sort of issues are there? Would you like the input of the /elf/ board on that second issue? /elf/ is at 2,000kb. /ph/ is at 7500kb. Granted PE sometimes posts in
hi-res; posting there is not part of our most common activity. So, yes an increased file size limit would still interest /elf/. I also think /elf/ would be interested in an archive. You are more than welcome to stop by and post a thread asking /elf/ what we think about both options. We are used to official-type posts so it won’t be strange to us in the least.
Thanks, Cognac250.
> With whom should I speak about /ph/?
I don't recall who runs /ph/. Ask Blackmage or Anon.
> What sort of issues are there?
Allowing large files to be posted to a board causes large fluctuations in the board content. A single thread with a number of zips can empty a board of all image content. On the other hand, if you increase the board size limit, and nobody posts archives, there will be too many images. It's one of the drawbacks of a size-limited board (as opposed to post-limited).
As for /file/, it's been tried before. It's potentially dangerous board because:
/ph/ is cyrilthefish, for whom we don't have reliable contact.
dmpk2k: Hello, I posted a summary of our recent discussion on "Brave New Boards" rather than here to offer them a digest with /elf/ pertinent interpretations. Also to save you --and me-- possible annoyance from a potential mob-effect. The link is http://iiichan.net/dis/discuss/kareha.pl/1175660099/23 incase you’re interested.
I have feeling /elf/ is less inclined to be interested in an archive and would rather have a increased limit on uploaded file sizes. I know even in that event, given PE’s conscientious nature, we will remain both respectful and resourceful with our options. Again, thank you for you thoughts and energies. PE and I are ever grateful to you and your colleges.
dmpk2k: given most recent exchanges inside of “Brave new boards” (25-28) I must say that certainly do not want any trouble to come to you. I acknowledge my newness to attempting to provide fellow posters with information about their board. May I remind you and who ever is listening that it was through active and as polite means as possible that we got your attention to concerns here to unvoiced at the higher levels of command.
We got our increased capacity, we expanded into Hi-Res. We formalized a standard hentai policy and used zips responsibly. We support positive reinforcement and good social behavior. --All in part to my efforts….Alas, how to proceed to help my board have a focused voice? They do fine on their own, yet I can not ignore what we all have achieved and the open support my board has shown me in helping /elf/ grow and be represented in this constellation of admins and moderators called wakachan who hardly seem to talk to each other and have unity. So, call me a jerk. I have made mistakes, and acknowledge each and every one.
I do no dot do any of this for glory or fame, I do it for the love of being a part of a good board and its people. …. Dmpk2k, you have been civil and informative, for that I thank you. you are the model to which others should aspire.
Cognac250.
I've increased the file-size limit on /elf/. We'll see how things proceed.
Enjoy the board. It's there to be used. Do take the other person's advice as well though, because this is a collective affair.
Dmpk2k: Thank you for everything. Really.
Phewwwww. TY. You know, I was - well I was worried for a second for PE, I mean. The idea of someone pulling the plug on PE and how that would effect the other posters- it makes me sad and angry. I feel like saying alot all at once--- but I’ll hold back. For PE, thank you, thank you:)
I will depart from posting discussion questions here for a time. I know /elf/ is in good hands with you in command.
Sincerely, Cognac250.
Well, I should point out that I'm not the only person with powers on wakachan.org. That other fellow is quite capable of nuking /elf/.
I doubt it'll come to that though. Provided that the board is well-behaved, there's no reason to do so.
cognac why the hell are you acting like you are in charge of pointy ears?
quit acting like an idiot and stop posting your stupid crap on the boards
hello 65. all these issues are all laid to rest. i wish my old posts here were erased. what you see are snap-shots of multi-part discussions in process. i was engaged in discussion here and via email so much of the greater context is missing.
your point is well taken and keep in mind i have long since come down to earth. from my forays, as you have seen, i have had alot to learn from. notice the date stamp. all these matters discussed have long been laid to rest and i am on more restful terms with all parties included.
thank you- i only spotted your reply by accident and felt commpelled to answer it to stop others from getting the wrong idea of the current situation.
Dmpk2k. Greetings, I wish this tiding was happier met. I world like all my discussion threads in the discussion boards to be deleted. I had though that over time, they’d become no longer noticed amid the sea of more current discussion.
However, as response # 65 points out, these old posts will only cause undue harm. Posters may not necessarily learn from my old posts, but react to them like this to only admonish a past act. There is no need for old issues that are laid to rest keep making problems for all parties concerned in the present. We sorted every thing out, me and you and all others and it is all indeed old news. Let these matters lay only in our minds, where in time those memories will aptly fade. Please delete my posts in the discussion boards, Thank you again. –Cognac250.
I have no control over this board. You'll have to ask someone else.
It doesn't matter if it's deleted though, because it'll eventually sink off the page.
hay guys, what you think about firefox? is it good? i hear it has a "download them all" add-on. i was wondering since if ff's d.t.a. realy works, then that might help some of us get more out of our downloading time. opinions? thanks for sharing any ideas:)
I will rephrase: Is it kosher to use such a thing as "Download them all" in Waka? I ask as I would like to facilitate the downloading of many new pictures while not breaking some waka rule. I thank you for your time and expertise.

short answer: no
Long answer: no way in the seven bloody hells
Using dTa will get you banned on several hosts.
Download the images you like. If you feel a compulsion to download all of them, may I suggest asking yourself why?
Thank you for your responses. I also found http://iiichan.net/dis/discuss/kareha.pl/1177051977/l50 which was imformative. I of course only download what I like, and in some cases, with numerous good- especially hard to find- pics, I don't have enough time to save all I may like to. If ever another person asks this same question, I hope our disscussion will help them as well. Thank all for your time.
Get other time-saving add-ons for Firefox, like Save image in folder that does away with much of the post-download sorting you would still have to do with DTA.
It's not that slow.. just look at 7chan, now thats SLOW!
